At the foot of Broadway in Lower Manhattan stands a building that once housed the International Mercantile Marine Co., a shipping consortium controlled by financier J.P. Morgan. Member companies in the early 20th century included major trans-Atlantic passenger lines such as White Star, American, and Red Star. The two doors above -- on the building's Battery Place side -- once led into an ornate ticketing hall. Today that space is used as a Citibank branch.
